20 planners will not be laid off Friday

Fresno, CA – Approximately 20 planners who are scheduled for layoffs on Friday have gotten an eleventh-hour reprieve.
The county does not have to lay off employees immediately because the income from development fees went up the last two months, Public Works and Planning Director Alan Weaver said Tuesday.
According to Weaver, growth has been constant pattern before, but the increase of the development fees this year is probably the outcome of seasonal change, since developers get to build during warmer weather.
