BUSINESS LAW: Apple Sues HTC for Patent Infringement

March 2, 2010

Cupertino – Apple has filed an infringement lawsuit against Taiwan-based mobile devices maker HTC.

In a statement released by the company, Apple claimed that HTC infringed on 20 patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware.

“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs remarked.

“We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours” he added.

HTC was the first company to produce mobile phones based on Google’s Android operating system including the Nexus One, which Google is selling directly to consumers.

HTC phones have emerged to be one of the leading competitors of iPhone.

Meanwhile, Apple is still engaged in legal battle with Nokia with each suing the other for copyright infringement.

Kodak is also suing Apple for technology theft related to image previewing and processing of images.
