CPSC Warns Consumers on Another "Deadly Crib"

December 2, 2009

Washington - Following the massive recall that covers 2.1 million drop-side cribs made by Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., safety regulators warned consumers from using "Molly" and "Betsy" cribs which have been previously recalled in 2001 over risk of head entrapment.

In its recall announcement, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said it has received a report about the death of a 1-year-old girl whose neck was stuck in the “Betsy” crib’s headboard in 2003, two years after the product was recalled.

The cribs, manufactured by LaJobi Inc., were sold in retail stores nationwide between May 2000 and Sept. 2001.

The reissuance of the voluntary recall is to alert consumers who are still using the said products and secondhand shops and thrift stores which might still sell these.

For the past five years, safety regulators and manufacturers have recalled more than 5 million cribs over defective or dangerous design.
