EMPLOYMENT LAW: Continental Airlines Lays Off 600 Employees
February 22, 2010
About 600 reservation agents of Continental Airline Inc. will lose their jobs in the company’s second round of layoffs in less than a year, reports said.
Aside from not renewing their contract with the Walt Disney Co., a spokesperson said that the company had a 15 percent decline in the volume of calls from clients. The company is said to close its call center located in Tampa, Florida.
Affected employees are those in charge of making flight arrangements through phone as more and more travelers prefer to book their flights through the internet. About 2,000 agents will retain their job after the cuts on April 11.
