EMPLOYMENT LAW: Employee Hunger Strike to Affect Burbank Disney Offices

Burbank- Employees on a hunger strike due to a contract dispute have been planning to conduct the protest outside the Walt Disney Co. Los Angeles headquarters.

At least two employees are planning to camp outside the company’s Burbank headquarters after a week-long hunger strike was done by eight Unite Here Local 11 Union members outside the Anaheim Disneyland Resort.

The strike rooted from the problem involving about 2,150 Disney hotel workers who have rendered service in the absence of a contract for two years.

The union wants workers to continue enjoying free health insurance coverage. However, the company wants these employees to be included in a plan wherein they will be required to provide paycheck contributions.

Union and Disney officials stated that they are willing to seek assistance from a federal mediator but a meeting date has not yet been scheduled.
