VEHICLE COLLISION: Fresno Victim Suffers Serious Brain Trauma after The Vehicle Collision

Fresno - Shaela Warkentin, a sophomore student in Bullard High School and the 15-year old daughter of the Warkentin family, is now suffering from serious brain trauma after a tragic accident. She survived the accident but still has to undergo major surgeries.

Reports said the accident occurred Tuesday night at around 11:30 pm, March 8th when Shaela Warkentin with her 20-year-old sister and a friend were on their way home from youth group at Fresno's People's Church. They were at Maroa and Barstow in Northwest Fresno waiting for the light to turn when suddenly an old model truck collided into their green Mustang car.

The impact of the crash was very strong that threw her through the back window. The emergency crews responded and took her to Community Regional Medical Center.

A family member said that a great amount of glass is still lodged in the area of brain that is too dangerous to remove. Shaela's left eye was crushed beyond repair. Her right eye needed to be sewn back together.

Shaela's father, Ken Warkentin said "In looking back they saw that her head was sort of stuck in the roof, they could just see from the jaw down." They are still traumatized.

After long hours of surgery, one of her doctors announced on Monday morning that Shaela had no infection but there is a built up of fluid in her brain.

Shaela’s recovery will take more months or years. She will require more surgeries including facial reconstruction. Shaela’s family will never give up until her life will get back to normal again.
