EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: Indiana Health Care Provider to Pay $45,000 for Pregnancy Discrimination
March 14, 2011
Indianapolis, Indiana – Indiana Health Center, Inc. a health care provider with a dental clinic will pay $45,000 to settle a pregnancy discrimination suit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced Monday.
According to the suit filed with the US Court for the Northern District of Indiana, the health care company terminated one of their female dentists because she was scheduled to take a pregnancy leave.
Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, such administrative action is prohibited and subject to legal responsibilities. EEOC filed the suit after the health center refused to agree with a pre-litigation settlement.
Aside from paying the settlement amount, the company is also required to submit regular reports regarding its anti-discrimination activities and policies. Trainings and lectures for supervisors and managers would also be held to eliminate discrimination in the workplace.
