Injection can cause Pulmonary Emboli

November 3, 2009

Shirley, New York - Ketorolac Tromethamine Injection may cause blood vessels to clog leading to pulmonary emboli or thrombosis, activate platelets and/or neutrophils to induce anaphylactic reactions, American Regent, the drug manufacturing company warned the other day. The announcement came as the company hinted of possible recall in the future.

“Patient safety is our primary concern and we are committed to taking the necessary steps to protect patients from any potential safety risks as we continue to investigate this issue," said Mary Jane Helenek, president and CEO of American Regent.

All injections, USP 15 mg/ml NDC#0517-0601-25 single dose vial, were recalled. Crystallization may be present in their product. It can also cause granulomas and irritation on the skin where it was injected.

The company already told the Food and Drugs Administration which are both currently discussing things.
