Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Identity Theft, Drug Charges
August 31, 2009
Westminster – A man was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for identity theft and drug violations last Wednesday.
Tuan Quoc Nguyen, 30, pleaded guilty to five felonies and three misdemeanors relating to drug possession, possession with intent to sell, unauthorized use of personal identifying information and receiving stolen property.
According to court records, Nguyen was in possession of 70 federal employment eligibility documents or I-9s for dozens of people when he was arrested.
Authorities were not able to discover whether the I-9 forms came from a human resources department of a company, a leak at a government agency, a document fencing syndicate or another source.
Nguyen never told the authorities how he got the I-9 forms, Prosecutor Janice Chieffo of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said.
The District Attorney’s Office contacted most of the identity-theft victims to notify them of today’s sentencing.
No new information was gathered through correspondence with the victims about how Nguyen got their information, Chieffo said.
