August 19, 2009
Software giant Microsoft Corp. filed an emergency motion to lift the court ruling that orders the company to pull out its Microsoft Word software from the market for violating the patent rights of a Canadian technology firm.
On August 12, US District Court Federal Judge Leonard Davis ordered Microsoft to pull out the infringed products and pay i4i with $290 million as damages for patent infringement.
Davis also banned the US Technology giant in selling Word programs designed to open XML file which contains custom XML.
i4i said that Microsoft Word 2003 and Word 2007 have violated its patent rights.
