SOCIAL SECURITY: Obama Requests Increase in Social Security Expenses
February 1, 2010
Washington - President Barrack Obama has requested an eight percent increase of Social Security’s administrative expenses for the Fiscal Year 2011 budget, reports said.
In a statement, Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue commended Obama’s proposal which would help them provide better services to growing number of applicants for disability and retirement claims.
“The additional funding is critical to our efforts to continue driving down the hearings backlog, something we were able to do in fiscal year 2009 for the first time in over a decade,” Astrue said.
The $12.5 billion budget for the SSA is said to help them better accommodate more applicants and improve their infrastructure.
