One Man Killed in Rollover Accident

Oceanside, San Diego- A man’s life ended when a big rig truck rolled over on top of his vehicle on a freeway transition.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Gustavo Garcia, 33. According to California Highway Patrol Officer (CHP) Eric Newbury, he was riding a Lexus sedan on the transition of Interstate 5 to eastbound state Route 75 when the truck crashed on its left side. The truck’s driver was negotiating a turn when it smashed into the sedan.

Newbury said Garcia sustained major head trauma. He was announced dead at the accident site.

An investigation is being conducted to know the cause of the accident. The 1996 Freightliner truck, which was pulling a 32-foot cargo container, will be fully inspected.

The truck driver who was identified as Jerry Jimerson, 32, was brought to Tri-City Medical Center wherein he was treated for minor injuries.

Newbury said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected in the incident.
