EMPLOYMENT ISSUE: Reduced Budget Triggers another Round of Job Cuts in OC

Orange County - The county Probation Department will be further reduced as 64 job positions are set to be eliminated by March 12, a department spokesperson said.

The department’s budget is now trimmed down to $159 million from $177 million in 2008-2009 which resulted to layoffs and retirements in the past year.

The recent cuts that will bring a total of 220 positions slashed within a 12-month period will affect at least 56 employees, most of whom are sworn officers dealing with juvenile offenders, while remaining cuts will come from unfilled positions.
