Santee Crash Prompts Toyota Recall
September 29, 2009
After a fatal accident in San Diego that killed a CHP officer and his family, Toyota is now recalling some 3.8 million vehicles that are likely to have the same defect as the 2009 Lexus ES350 in the Santee fiery crash last month.
Earlier, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued an alert to motorists driving new models of Lexus and Toyota as the driver’s side floor mats are reportedly jamming the accelerator.
The vehicles to be recalled are 2007 to 2010 models of Lexus ES350, Camry, and Tundra, 2006 to 2010 models of Lexus IS250 and IS350, 2005 to 2010 models of Avalon and Tacoma, and 2004 to 2009 models of Prius.
Furthermore, Toyota released a warning to motorists that if they should encounter problems with the above models, they should shift the gear to neutral and steer to roadside.
Police are still conducting investigations on whether the floor mat in the Lexus caused the Santee crash.
