EMPLOYMENT LAW: School District Lays off Employees

Pleasanton – At least 61 employees of Pleasanton school district will lose their jobs in June as the state further trims down budget, reports said Thursday.

The layoffs were decided and finalized in the school board meeting last Tuesday and will cut off 16 teachers and counselor positions as well as 45 clerical and technical support staff.

Aside from layoffs, the trustees also discussed furloughs that will be taken by the classified staff which should save about $450,000 in the school’s budget.

The recent cuts and furloughs should close the $8 million budget gap for the school year 2010-2011.
