PRODUCT LIABILITY: Toyota denies defective break on Prius crash
Harrison, New York - Toyota has denied allegations of a housekeeper on the defective break that caused a Prius crash on March 9.
Toyota released an investigation report showing Toyota Prius' crashed car has good brakes and accelerator condition.
Gloria Rosel, 56 years old, claimed that her boss' Toyota Prius car had faulty brake and accelerator that caused her to bump on stone wall.
Police investigators clarified that the event data recorder of the car showed no record of a brake application, but has 100% record of accelerator use. New York police proceeded with the accusation that Rosel's negligence had caused the accident.
The Toyota Prius 2008 run wild with 94mph speed on Southern California road. It sped down at 35 mph, hitting a curb, and went 27mph as it hit the stone wall on the street. Toyota Prius' front end was ruined; however, the driver incurred no injuries.
The police found that the computer's brake sensor showed zero percent use. The accelerator pedal also remained in good condition after the accident.
"The vehicle accelerator in this case was depressed 100 percent at the time of collision, and there was absolutely no indication of any brake application," said Capt. Anthony Marraccini of Harrison police.
Toyota spokesman Wade Hoyt asserted the car's brake condition will make it stop regardless of the accelerator's position.
Marracini, however, commented on Rosel's motives, "She believes she depressed the brake, but that just simply isn't the case here. She did not try to deceive police, and she faces no charges."
Toyota released a statement confirming its continued investigation on a possible unintended acceleration.
Several consumer groups and experts probed that defective electronic throttles could have triggered the accident.
