Workers Agree to Take Fridays Off, Without Pay

Feb. 26, 2009

Selma City – Around 120 city employees have agreed to take every other Friday off without pay to help the city in its programs to stabilize their budget crisis.

According to reports, the cost-cutting measures will take effect on March 13 and will last until the end of June. The furlough aims to aid the city’s budget deficit.

City employees like police and firefighters would still work on these Fridays but would not be paid. In return, city employees would be eligible to take days off after July 1 to replace the days they have worked without pay.

The city has guaranteed that there would be no drastic effect on transit systems and senior services during these furlough days.
